Scope and Content St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Nairn, Highland Nairn was founded as a royal burgh in about 1200. By 1800, it was a thriving community with its own fishing town. It developed into a resort after it was connected to the rail network in 1855. St Mary's Roman Catholic Church was built in 1864. Its L-plan and crow-stepped gables are in keeping with the traditional buildings of the 17th and 18th centuries. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
