Scope and Content Cairn at Ri Cruin, Kilmartin, Argyll and Bute Situated in trees, some 200m S of Ri Cruin, this Bronze Age cairn is now greatly reduced in height. Over the course of three excavations three cists were revealed. The site is notable for two decorated slabs, and for the skill used in building the cists. In 1870, the Dean Mapleton excavated at Ri Cruin and discovered this slab-built cist immediately beyond the original kerb, visible as the larger stones in the bottom right. Mapleton found that two slabs had been decorated, and one bore several axe-heads. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
