Scope and Content North front, Earlsneuk, Chapel Green Lane, Earlsferry Earlsneuk was built in 1883 at the time when Earlsferry was becoming a seaside resort. The house is a large, two-storeyed (Victorian) villa of a distinctive design. The household utility rooms, or offices, are in the single-storyed block on the left. Earlsferry was the terminal for ferries across the Forth - mainly to North Berwick and Dirleton - during the Middle Ages. Accepted as a royal burgh in 1541, it was in decline by the 18th century, but revived as a seaside resort in the late 19th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
