Scope and Content View of Cycle Tavern and houses in Burnside, Auchtermuchty, Fife Auchtermuchty was created a royal burgh in 1517. It developed as a small industrial settlement in the late 18th and 19th centuries with the establishment of a linen works and an iron foundry. The last looms stopped weaving in 1912. These buildings in Burnside probably date from the town's 19th-century expansion. Mainly two-storeyed and three-bayed, all are harled, with the Cycle Tavern and its neighbour having white painted door and window surrounds. Auchtermuchty was once famed for its many thatched roofs. However, during the course of the 20th century, most thatched roofs were replaced with slates or tiles. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
