Scope and Content Burgh arms on Dumbarton Prison, Dumbarton and Clydebank Dumbarton Prison replaced the earlier tolbooth. The architect convinced the Jail Committee to build a separate prison, rather than make it part of the new court-house. Most of the funding came from the county council. The burgh arms were displayed above the prison gateway. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
