Description Report (GUARD 362.2): 'St Kilda Annual Report 1997'.

Date 1997

Collection Records from the Department of Archaeology, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number WP 004744

Category Digital Files (Non-image)

Copy of MS 725/248

Scope and Content This 24-page report contains a record of a survey of several sections of cliff erosion in Village Bay, Hirta. On the whole it was concluded that the cliff was not eroding at an alarming rate, but over several decades there may well be a noticeable difference. Section E was problematic in that there had been a degree of change in only 3 years. It was recommended that the NTS should continue to monitor the situation in the future. Appendix A contains a 4 page report (pages 20-23) by Robert Squair on seven pottery sherds, representing five separarte vessels recovered in the summer of 1997; some at least were thought to be of Bronze Age origin, rather than the craggan wares known from St Kilda.
