Photographer: 'W S' Date: '1962' Interior of Assembly Rooms (also known as the 'Music Hall'), Aberdeen The Assembly Rooms was built in 1820-2 for the wealthy to hold social functions. It was one of the many neoclassical works of Archibald Simpson, a merchant's son who practised as an architect after returning from a tour of Italy in 1813-14. Aberdeen, 174-194 Union Street, Music Hall / Recreation / / Hall / DIGITAL IMAGES From 1800-1840, a generation of prestigious young architects led by John Smith and Archibald Simpson remodelled Aberdeen in Grecian neoclassical style and improved the infrastructure to meet the needs of the city's expanding industries.
