Scope and Content Written on the back of the mounted print: 'Place: Edinburgh. Building: Duddingston Manse - South Elevation' Photographer: 'C H C' Date: 'Nov 1962' Duddingston Manse, built in 1805, lies to the east of Duddingston Parish Church behind a high stone wall that runs the length of Old Church Lane. The house looks south over a beautifully wooded garden that leads down to the lochside. The three-bayed house has a doorway at first-floor level approached by a flight of steps from the garden. An extra bay, added to the house in 1821, included a delicate first-floor iron balcony supported by scrolled brackets. The manse garden leads, through a small door near the Session House, to 'Dr Neil's garden' which runs down to the water's edge. This splendid second garden was developed in the 1960s by Dr Andrew Neil and his wife, Nancy. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
