Scope and Content Fort at Black Hill, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire The fort is built on the summit of Black Hill. The earliest use of the site was for a Bronze Age burial cairn. The fort appears to have had only one period of construction though is a later settlement joined on to the south side. This is a plan of the fort and settlement. The oval fort encloses the entire summit of the hill with a single stone wall. The cairn, in the NW corner is built on the highest part of the hill. The settlement is defended by double banks and a ditch. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
