Description Villas

Collection Philip William Sayer

Catalogue Number 551 263/1

Category All Other

Scope and Content Thomson's villas were his earliest designs. Seven of the eight represented here date from the 1850s (Craig Ailey, 1852; Holmwood, 1857) with one later villa, Ellisland (1871). His clients were Glasgow merchants and industrialists who wished to have residences away from the city, down the Clyde in locations such as Cove, and in the southern suburbs, such as Pollockshields.
