General Collection. Duchal Photograph Albums

Description General Collection. Duchal Photograph Albums

Collection General Collection. Photograph Albums.

Catalogue Number 551 87/1

Category All Other

Scope and Content A group of 13 photograph albums nearly all of which come from one source - a family who took holidays following country pursuits in familiar places. These include the west coast of Scotland (many boating and motoring tours), Elie (where a tennis lawn south of Bank Street was a favourite venue), Duchal House in Renfrewshire (which for a while was owned by G. Wallace who features in many pictures), Auchans in Ayrshire, Heathfield in Dunbartonshire, Gask in Perthshire and visits to several country houses. Some of these remain unidentified: could one be Dalnottar House in Old Kilpatrick (the address in the oldest album which belonged to Annie Henderson and L. D. Henderson, who features much in this series)? The other two albums belong to the Keays (276, mostly in the British colonies) and the Ewens (277, who seem to have lived in Castle Douglas but visited family in Aberdeenshire. The only connection so far traced between these two and the other eleven albums is in the few biro-written names of family relations added later.
