PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM 283: L D HENDERSON'S ALBUM.
Brown leatherette hard-backed book titled 'Album' on the front cover, label inside the back cover says 'The Victorian Album no S500, Johnson, London'.
The 36 white pages are numbered 1-72, the photographs are all captioned by the photographer, L D Henderson. The subjects are mainly people, as well as the landscapes and buildings of the places he visited. In addition to holidays and trips taken while on leave, the images document L D Henderson's career in the army, including his experience of the First World War. While these images are mainly personal, some arguably have more of a historicial significance, as Henderson has captured moments such as the arrival of the first tank into Egypt and troops making their way to Galipoli. Beginning in Alexandria, Egypt in 1896, before moving to Kilcreggan Army Camp in Scotland in 1902, the photographs show a number of locations from around the world, particularly Alexandria, where L D Henderson was stationed from 1915-1917, as well Palestine and India, where he remained for the remainder of the war. Having returned to Scotland in 1920, the album ends with a visit to Beaulieu Castle in Hampshire during the same year.
