Scope and Content Fortlet at Wilderness Plantation, East Dunbartonshire This Roman fortlet is at Wilderness Plantation. It was built on an N facing ridge, overlooking the river Kelvin (to the NW) and the route up to Loch Lomond. It is on the Antonine Wall, and is halfway between the forts at Balmuildy and Cadder. This is a plan of the site showing the known layout of the fortlet. To the N, the fort abutted the Wall, with the other three sides being protected by a rampart and two ditches. There was a gate in the N side, and another was thought to be in the S side. The fortlet was excavated in 1965 - 66. The fort appears to have had two phases of use, with the earlier timber buildings being removed and the interior cobbled. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
