Scope and Content Fortlet at Wilderness Plantation, East Dunbartonshire This Roman fortlet is at Wilderness Plantation. It was built on an N facing ridge, overlooking the river Kelvin (to the NW) and the route up to Loch Lomond. It is on the Antonine Wall, and is halfway between the forts at Balmuildy and Cadder. This is an aerial view of the site. The fortlet and the Wall can be seen as a series of cropmarks just below the modern buildings. Part of the Wall has already been lost due to gravel quarrying, as can be seen on the right of the image. The fortlet was excavated in 1965 - 66. The fort appears to have had two phases of use, with the earlier timber buildings being removed and the interior cobbled. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
