Scope and Content The project encompassed three stages: evaluation, excavation and watching brief with the processes recorded through photographs and film, registers, illustrations, records sheets and reports.
Administrative History Field work on the proposed route of the A96- Kintore Bypass, carried out by the Centre for Field Archaeology (CFA) throughout 1996 and 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland on behalf of The National Roads Directorate of The Scottish Office Development Department. The archaeological excavations aimed to investigate the archaeological remains identified during the evaluation of Deer’s Den (trenches 23-26) and Tavelty (trench 31). The site is positioned at National Grid Reference NJ 784 160 and consisted of a Roman temporary camp, Neolithic pits and later prehistoric structures. The methods of archaeological investigation carried out were evaluation, excavation and a watching brief. More extensive investigative work was carried out by AOC Archaeology between 2000-2006.
