Description SKETCH BOOK 5: Kincardineshire Ancient Monuments Album. Dark cloth-covered hard backed spring binder with embossed border on both front and back, blue marbled end papers and red cloth-covered spring. In a sugar paper folder inside are 171 loose pages, mostly lined and used for hand-written ink descriptions (some buildings extinct, all with location), the remainder plain paper slotted to hold photographs. (OSM for this area was published 1868) Detailed inventory of archaeological and historical sites in Kincardineshire, compiled by Rev. Dr. Barron, Aberfoyle. These are arranged by parish and include a number of snapshots showing: a gravestone erected by George, 5th Earl Marischal, in memory of his daughter, Mary, ob. 14 Oct. 1620; Benholm Tower and the Castle Dovecot; a fragment of a tombstone in Marischal Mausoleum; a doorway and sculptured stones in St. Palladius' Chapel; sculptured stones at the parish church of St James the Great; the Sheriff's Kettle; Inglismaldie Castle; Newdosk churchyard; the wall of the Enceinte, Lauriston Castle, and the Stone of Morphie.
