Scope and Content This report presents the results of an archaeological watching brief and subsequent mitigation measures undertaken by CFA Archaeology Ltd between September and October 2008, during topsoil stripping operations for a gas pipeline to the west of Luncarty, Perth and Kinross, which had been commissioned by Land and Marine Project Engineering Ltd. The pipeline would run between the farms of Balmblair and Kilburn. A desk-based assessment carried out by RSK Environment Ltd in 2001 had identifieed 19 sites within a proposed buffer zone within 1km of the proposed pipeline, but the development was thought to have no direct impact on any of theses. During the watching brief, four sites of archaeological potential were identified. Site 1 was temporarily preserved under terram and gravel for later investigation. Site 2 was fully excavated, and Sites 3 and 4 were subject to mitigation excavation. A number of pits were found, together with spreads of material. Other isolated archaeological features were identified and excavated during the course of the watching brief. Four sherds of prehistoric pottery were found.
