Scope and Content This report considers any likely significant effects of the construction and operation of the proposed flood prevention scheme on the Braid Burn, Edinburgh, on cultural heritage interests, and identifies mitigation measures to be taken. Some 50 sites were identified, including a holy well and chapel; the site of a market cross; 3 mill leads; 5 mills, one with an extant wheel; 19 buildings or building groups; 1 barracks, 1 castle, 1 school; 1 shopping centre; 1 sundial; 2 gardens; 7 bridges; a culvert; a probable sports track; a standing stone; and an ornate wall. 6 sites of National Importance were identified (Inch House,Peffermill House, Prestonfield House, Prestonfield House Stables, and Nether Liberton Doocot, all Category A. 10 sites were of Regional Importance (Category B), and 28 sites were of Local Importance. Potential Impacts were assessed and mitigation measures proposed, to take place before work commenced. Moderate adverse impacts were predicted on four sites. The report consists of 20 pages, and 7 annotated map/diagrams. Commissioned by City of Edinburgh Council.
