Aerial Photographic Interpretation (January 2022)

A settlement, comprising a palisaded enclosure containing a possible roundhouse, has been recorded as cropmarking on oblique aerial photographs (RCAHMSAP 1992) some 800m SE of Mark Farm and 185m ENE of the NE corner of Fox Plantation. The enclosure measures about 22m in diameter within a ditch up to 1m broad but its southern part has been removed by quarrying. What may be a second ditch, concentric to and 1.2m outside the first, can be seen on the E. Within the enclosure there is a crescent-shaped cropmark which probably represents the remains of a roundhouse measuring about 11m in diameter. A rectilinear ditched enclosure (NX15NW 81.2) partly overlaps the E side of the settlement.

Information from HES Archaeological Survey (A. McCaig), January 2022.
