Ednam Bridge is located at the east end of Ednam village, carrying the public road over the Eden Water.
The bridge is built of smooth blocks of dressed stone and was constructed in the early to mid-nineteenth century. It has three arches, with the piers between the spans ending in rounded cutwaters.
An inscription on the bridge refers to 'Henry Francis Lyte, the hymn writer'. Lyte was born in Ednam in 1793, and wrote a number of hymns during his career in the church, the most famous of which is 'Abide with Me.'
