Activities

Desk Based Assessment (30 June 2017)

The crane at Beardmore’s naval shipping yard on the north bank of the River Clyde, in the Dalmuir area of Glasgow, was manufactured in 1903 by the Benrather Maschinenfabrik AG. A 150-ton hammerhead crane, it sat at the western edge of the fitting out basin as depicted on the 3rd edition of the OS 25-inch map (Dumbartonshire 1918, Sheet n023.14). The crane was demolished about 1971-72 and the basin it served has been filled and is now the location of the Clydeside Community Park.
