Activities

Field Visit (8 November 1973)

At NO 1505 6173 are two circular stone-walled huts, with several stone clearance heaps to the N, probably from contemporary culitvation plots. Both huts are mutilated with the walls reduced to rings of intermittent boulders, the westerly one being 12.0m in diameter and the other 16.0m, both measured between wall centres. A gap in the W arc of the smaller hut may represent the entrance, but no entrance is evident in the other. On the NW fringe of the clearance are the foundations of a rectangular building c. 15.0m x 6.0m. Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Field Visit (4 July 1988)

1. NO 1505 6173 This hut-circle measures 15.2m in diameter within a wall 1.4m thick and 0.3m high. The wall has two boulder faces but (on the SE in particular) has been heavily robbed. The entrance is probably situated on the SW where a depression in the wall fabric is flanked on the E by a large boulder and on the W by the socket of another. 2. NO 1503 6173 Situated a few metres WSW of (1) there is a second hut-circle which measures 9.8m in diameter within a rear scarp (0.5m high) and a wall (formed of large rounded and angular boulders) which measures 1.4m in thickness and 0.3m in height. The position of the entrance was not apparent on the date of visit. Situated immediately N of the hut-circles there are the remains of several poorly-preserved small cairns.
