Activities

Field Visit (4 March 1988)

The remains of a substantial cairn are situated on a low knoll in the saddle between the Hill of Kingseat and the hill known as Saebeg. It is roughly circular and measures 19.5m from NW to SE by 19m in diameter over a boulder kerb. At least sixty kerbstones are visible, although some have been pulled forwards out of position; the largest, which measures 1.4m in length by 0.8m in height, is on the S, but there is another large block on the SW. Within the kerb the cairn has been extensively quarried and its centre dug out, but in places the cairn material still stands up to 1m high. (Name Book 1865)

Visited by RCAHMS (SH) 4 March 1988.

RCAHMS 1990.

Measured Survey (15 March 1988)

RCAHMS surveyed Cairn Gleamnach by alidade and plane-table on 15 March 1988 at a scale of 1:125. The resultant plan was redrawn in ink and published at a scale of 1:250 (RCAHMS 1990, Fig. 12).
