Field Visit (9 September 1993)

NN93NW 13.13 912 381

The remains of a township, which comprises seven buildings (Braan93 25-27, 29-30), are situated around the roofed, but unoccupied, cottage at Innercochill. The buildings measure up to 16.6m by 4.2m (NN 9128 3814, Braan93 25) within faced-rubble footings up to 0.9m in thickness and 0.5m high. A horse-engine platform (NN 9131 3816, Braan93 28), measuring 9m in diameter, is situated beside a heavily-robbed building.

All the buildings are shown as roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1867, sheets lxxi and lxxii) together with two buildings of which there is now no trace. The four enclosures shown on the 1st edition map are visible in a fragmentary form. By the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Perthshire 1901, sheets lxxi and lxxii) only two of the buildings (Braan93 25, and the currently roofed cottage) are depicted in any way, and they are roofed.
