Union Bridge [NAT]

OS (GIS) MasterMap, March 2010.

For (predecessor) Old Bridge of Keith (NJ 4276 5080), see NJ45SW 7.

(Location cited as NJ 427 508). Union Bridge, erected 1770, widened 1816, enlarged and partly rebuilt 1872. A single segmental arch with rustic ashlar voussoirs and spandrels, and small castellated corner towers. The original (1770) arch can be seen beneath later accretions.

J R Hume 1977.

The remains of the military bridge, which was built in 1770 and includes a stone inscribed 'G.III R.R.S. 1770', are incorporated in the modern bridge, which was widened in 1816 and partly rebuilt in 1912 according to a plaque.

Visited by OS (FS) 30 April 1973 and (AA) 17 September 1973.

This bridge carries Regent Street over the River Isla near the centre of Keith.

The probable route of the Fettercairn to Fochabers military road (NJ45SW 46) passes over this bridge.

Information from RCAHMS (MW) 8 March 1999.
