South Lodge [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map, 1975.

Activities

Field Visit (September 2013 - April 2014)

Single-storey, asymmetrical gabled lodge located near the end of the former South-east drive on the opposite side of Dyke road, lime-washed stone with tooled ashlar margins, built in 1873 according to monogram on gable facing road, with initials HBB. Let as a two-bedroom holiday cottage by NTS, with pleasant garden area. It is not listed, which appears inconsistent with the Category C listing of West lodge that is similar.

A sawmill is shown to the south but very close to this position on the 1870 1st edition OS, with the lodge appearing first on the 1904 edition.
