Attadale Halt [NAT]

OS (GIS) MasterMap, June 2009.

Location formerly entered as NG 9246 3903.

(Location cited as NG 924 392). Attadale Halt, opened 1870 by the Dingwall and Skye Rly. A single-track through station, with a tiny wooden shelter.

J R Hume 1977.

(Name cited by Butt as Attadale Station). This intermediate station on the Dingwall - Kyle of Lochalsh line of the former Highland Rly was opened in 1880, being intended as a private halt for nearby Attadale House (NG93NW 6) and the interim terminus of the line. Goods traffic ceased on 15 August 1966 and the freight sing and ground frame were removed in 1979 but the station remains in regular use (as an unstaffed halt) by passenger traffic.

The original simple but charming buildings were designed by Alexander Ross, an Inverness architect, and included refreshment and waiting rooms and a smart hotel. These have been replaced by the usual crude structures of concrete blocks.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 14 June 2001.

B Williams 1988; R V J Butt 1995.
