About half a mile to the north of the present farm is a prominent rocky knowe which has been scooped and flattened on the top. A road leading up to it can be seen and there are several grassy house foundations in the immediate vicinity. There is likely to have been a wooden structure on top rather than a stone one. This is the site of the tower of the Craig of Douglas which was demolished by James II in 1450/1 and is probably the scene of the ballad "The Douglas Tragedy".
