Lynedale (Lianadal -dale of flax), c.1740; and later; restored by Ian Begg, 1997 The original two-storey, four-bay house with lower flanking wings (the nepus gable is a later alteration) was a Macleod tacksman's house, later of the Macdonalds of Sleat. Within the right hand wing are suggestions of an earlier structure, supporting documentary evidence that there had long been a house at Lynedale. Restoration (involving removal of the 1870s drawing/dining room wing) has returned the house to its 18th-century form. Ancillary structures include: rubbly steading court; secretive walled garden and shy, teacaddy gatelodge of c.1840, its boat-like roof staked down by a massive central stack.

[Lynedale was a MacLeod tack until 1781, after which it was acquired by the Macdonalds of Sleat. In 1900 it was bought, re-roofed and generally resucitated after a period of decline by the 2nd Lord Napier of Magdala, who in 1885 had married Eva, daughter of Lord Macdonald. It remained with his descendants until 19??.]
