Uamh Muinntir I, 'the cave of the Iona folk', was used as a shelter by people taking corpses to Iona for burial.

This cave was elaborately built up in the 19th cenutry by the Campbells of Jura for use as a stalking lodge.

Information from M Campbell to Ordnance Survey, 1965

Uamh Muinntir I (name verified), utilised as a temporary dwelling in the 19th century with a mortared wall blocking the entrance, and the floor levelled and built up. The cave measures 7.0m deep and 3.5m wide. Abutting the wall across the entrance is a contemporary rectangular building. There is no evidence of the cave's use prior to the 19th century.
