Archaeology Notes

NF71SE 3 unlocated.

Fragments of the blade of a double-edged Viking sword with bronze hilt, an iron spearhead, and a well-worn whetstone were dug up in the Island of Eriskay by the late Rev Macdonald. Shetelig states they were "from a man's grave" but gives no authority for this statement.

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1906; A O Curle, M Olsen and H Shetelig 1954.

Local enquiries re the above finds proved negative.
