Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Eccles Parish Church is surrounded by a churchyard which lies adjacent to the ruins of St Mary's Convent.

The churchyard contains gravestones dating from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. They include types of stones fashionable throughout this period, including table monuments, mural monuments attached to the churchyard walls and gravestones with classical details. There are also burial enclosures created for the use of individual families.

One of the table monuments is dedicated to the family of Dr George Johnston, who founded the Berwickshire Naturalists Club.
