Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Situated on the west side of The Square is a row of three-storeyed tenements, Nos 10-20, which consist of a mixture of rendered, painted and plain stone buildings. These probably date from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Sometime around the mid-nineteenth century the ground floors of the tenements were altered to become shop premises.

Notable features include projecting quoins or edging stones at Nos 10-11, contrasting with the plain sandstone exterior of the neighbouring block at Nos 12-15, while Nos 18-19 features original Georgian glasswork, with radial glazing and a bowed and astragalled (a glazed sash window divided up by wooden glazing bars) shop window.
