No remains are now traceable but it is said to have been one of seven pre-Reformation chapels which, according to the Imperial Gazeteer of Scotland, once existed on South Ronaldsay. It is believed to have been established about the 13th century and dedicated to St Columba.

Name Book 1879; RCAHMS 1946, visited 1929.

'St Colm's Chapel' survives as a vague turf-covered foundation with approximate dimensions of 9.0m E-W and 5.0m N-S. There is no trace of a burial ground.

Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (IMT) 6 May 1973.

Field Visit (August 1997)

The vague, turf-covered footings of a structure, measuring 9m E-W by 5m N-S, are thought to be the remains of St. Colm's Chapel. This chapel is believed to have been constructed in the 13th C and dedicated to St. Columba. It is said to have been one of seven pre-Reformation chapels which existed on South Ronaldsay (RCAHMS 1946 ii, 846). The site was not located during this survey.
