The W terminal of the Union Canal consisted of a basin [Port Downie: see NS87NE 31.00) which opend into the Forth and Clyde canal just W of Lock 16. This basin has now been filled in, but the position of the gate can be seen (at NS 8681 8001) on the S bank of the Forth and Clyde Canal.
