Activities

Photographic Survey (October 1961)

Photographic survey of buildings in Coldstream, Berwickshire, by the Scottish National Buildings Record in 1961.

Watching Brief

CFA Archaeology Ltd conducted monitoring of a proposed

development area with high archaeological potential in November 2014. It was located on

the site of the former Coldstream Priory. However, the extent and form

of any structures or features associated with the Priory was unknown.

There was also a high potential that the Priory cemetery was located in

this area and that buried human remains could have survived. The

development area also contained a later 19th century house that had since

been demolished and it was also considered likely that buried remains of

the building may survive.

The depth of the ground-breaking was limited by condition and most of

the ground-breaking required for construction terminated whilst still in

the topsoil. No archaeological remains were identified, however, the

northern and eastern garden walls contained architectural features such

as blocked windows and it is considered that they probably once formed

part of the 19th century structure that previously occupied the site.
