(ND 3091 6164) Mound (NR)

OS 6" map, Caithness, 2nd ed., (1907)

This is a grass-grown mound 42ft in diameter and 6ft high. It was trenched through by Sir Francis Tress Barry, but nothing was found. RCAHMS 1911, visited 1910.

This mound of earth and small stones measures 15.0m in diameter and 2.2m high. It is located on rising ground at the edge of a pasture field. Resurveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (N K B) 6 September 1965.

A turf-covered mound, prominently situated on rising ground as described in the previous field report. It is roughly bowl-shaped, though the margins have been disturbed by ploughing, and there is some disturbance on the summit, probably caused by Tress Barry's trenching. Substantial erosion of the turf cover reveals a content of earth and small fragments of stone; only a very few rubble stones are exposed.

Despite the absence of finds by Tress Barry, it is possible that this is a barrow or cairn.

Visited by OS (N K B) 23 August 1982.
