Newtonlees farm lies about 2km west of Ednam. It is a large complex, with most of the buildings probably constructed in the mid-nineteenth century.
The range of structures include a granary, threshing barn, steading and cattle shed, and indicate that mixed farming is practised at Newtonlees. Most of the farm buildings are constructed of rubble masonry with slated roofs, and the farmhouse is harled. A water-wheel, once used to power a threshing machine, remains in situ.
A nineteenth-century source shows that the inhabitants of the farm played an active role in community life. The log of Ednam school records thanks for the use of the Newtonlees cart on a trip to a nearby country house.
