This intermediate station on the Inverness - Wick and Thurso ('Far North') line of the former Highland Rly was opened in 1878 in 1878 by the Sutherland and Caithness Rly. It was originally entitled Borrobol Platform, being renamed Borrobol Station by British Railways on 10 September 1962. The station remains in regular use by passenger traffic.

Borrobol platform was a halt to serve the nearby lodge. Opened in 1878 and was closed in 1965.
