This station formed the passenger terminus of the Charlestown branch of the (former) North British Rly. It was opened on 1 September 1894 and was closed to regular passenger traffic (by the London and North-Eastern Rly.) on 1 November 1926.

Charlestown Station is depicted on the OS 2nd Edition map (Fifeshire, sheet XXXVIII, 1914). It has since been demolished.
