Shepherds' Cairn [NAT]

OS 6-inch map, 1961.

This is one of six shepherd's cairns in the area recorded by CFA in 1994 during field investigation for an environmental assessment for a proposed windfarm site (others recorded on NT05SE 6-8, 10). They are composed of stacked piles of large stones measuring up to 2m across and 1m high. None is indicated on the first edition OS coverage of 1864, although some are present on the second edition OS coverage of 1912, suggesting that these monuments are of no great antiquity.

CFA 1994s.
