Archaeology Notes

ND34SW 38 3322 4295

'Near the Ormiegill cairn (ND34SW 2) there is a large block of stone, which has been very rudely cut across to a depth of nearly three inches, and along the side there is a row of wedge-holes of peculiar make. The cutting is evidently of old date.' (Anderson seems to suggest that this could be a cross-slab in the making.)

J Anderson 1866.

This stone was not located.

Visited by OS (R L) 25 April 1967.

ND 3322 4295. A stone block, 3.17 by 0.3 to 1.0m, with an incision 7.5cm in depth across the long side and a row of wedge holes in the narrow side. Possibly a quarry waster.

C E Batey 1981.
