Archaeology Notes

NY36NW 74 33265 67519

This bridge carries the electrified Carlisle Glasgow 'Annandale' main line of the former Caledonian Railway portion of the West Coast Main Line over the River Sark, which here forms the boundary between England and Scotland. It is of sandstone construction and comprises twin arches rising from a central pier. It is approached by an embankment from the S, and on the N there are substantial sloping abutments which have been heightened in brick.

Visited by RCAHMS (RJCM), 26 February 1996.
