Dismantled Railway [NAT]
OS 1:10,000 map, 1972.
The Crieff Junction Railway between Gleneagles and Crieff opened on 16 March 1856; it was taken over by the Scottish Central Railway in 1865 and then shortly after by the Caledonian Railway. The line closed to passenger traffic on 6 July 1964 and to freight on 1 September 1964.
J Thomas and D Turnock 1989.
A short length of this disused railway line survives SE of Drumness steading (NN91NW 30). It crosses the SW corner of the mapsheet in a NW to SE direction and much of its length takes the form of a cutting which has been partly infilled imediately to the SW of Drumness. The cutting continues to a point (NN 9045 1511) E of Farmton, from where an embankment continues the line to the S edge of the mapsheet.
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, IF), 8 November 1995.
