A cup-marked rock with seven faint cups was located by the OS (RD) in 1972 at NX 5137 5411, and rechecked and surveyed at 1:2500 in 1977 (by BS). Both surveyors agreed that this was probably not the stone illustrated by RCAHMS in 1914 (NX55SW 24), which, they concluded, had since been covered with turf.
Visited by OS (RD) 14 March 1972 and (BS) 22 June 1977.
Morris describes this stone under Kirkmuir 2, noting 14 cups, one with a faint ring 100mm in diameter.

Van Hoek labels this group 'Kirkmuir 3' and has identified 'twelve plain cups, one cup with faint traces of one ring (100mm in diameter) on a groove more deeply carved.'

NX 5135 5411 Kirk-dale Mains (1) Excavation revealed a 3-turn spiral with central cup, plus dozens of other glyphs in addition to what was previously known of this site.

Field Visit (28 April 1994)
NX55SW 73 5137 5411 and 5135 5411
These markings were located on the flat surface of an outcrop in a pasture field about 150m ENE of Kirkdale church (NX55SW 3), 95m from the NW corner of the field and about 12m E of its W boundary. Up to eight cups were identified, the largest being 50mm in diameter and 20mm deep.

Location Notes: This panel is located in a field of mixed improved pasture and rough grazing, on land to the N of Kirkdale House, c.450m NW of Cairnholy 1 Chambered cairn, and c.450m W of Cairnholy 2 chambered cairn (which is visible), c.175m to the ENE of the ruined remains of Kirkdale Church and c.100m to the NW of a gorse covered knoll in the same field. The panel lies c.10m to the E of a N-S running stone field wall, which separates two fields, approximately halfway between the terminals of the stone wall. Access is easiest from the road by Cairnholy 1 Chambered cairn, through a field gate to the SW of the parking area, and then N through two more gates following the edge of the field (avoiding any crops) and into the next field where the panel is on the W edge. There are several other panels in the vicinity include Kirkmuir 2 which is c.50m lower down the slope, c.1m to the E of the stone wall.
Panel Notes: A roughly rectangular panel 1.7m in length, 0.8m in width and up to 0.2m in height. The panel has been carved with a group of 7 cups and two additional cups to the E in the centre of the panel. The largest cup is 6cm in diameter and 15mm deep, the other to it's E is faint and measures 4cm in diameter.
