Archaeology Notes

ND25SE 12 c. 25 54.

A circular wall 12ft in diameter was exposed by Alexander Bremner, landlord of the Watten Inn, whilst trenching a plot of ground near the river in 1840. The interior of the construction was filled with ashes and rubbish among which he found a stone 'celt' 17ins long, 9ins across the broad end and 4 ins across the narrow end, and two round granite balls. None seem to have been preserved.

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1873.

No further information was obtained during field investigation.

Visited by OS (W D J) 25 April 1963.
