Lead Mine [NAT]

OS 6-inch map, Aberdeenshire, 1st ed. (1869), sheet 91

"It is believed that there is a lead mine near the castle of Glengairn (NO39NE 1, at NO 3586 9742); many pieces of lead have been found, but from the expense of working it, no exertions have been made to find out the vein of the metal."

Statistical Account (OSA) 1791-9.

A large crag about 1/4 mile N of Ballater Pass is known to contain lead ore. Mine is not at present worked. [Though the Name Book gives the OSA (supra) as a reference, the description there might be more fitting for NO39NE 35.]

Name Book, Aberdeenshire 1868.
