Kirkhall farmhouse and farmsteading was described in the Name Book (ONB 1858-61) as, "A farmhouse and office". It is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1864, sheet xiii) as a setting of three roofed buildings, whilst on the OS 2nd edition map (Lanarkshire 1899, sheet xiii SW), only one remains roofed. These buildings are still in use, and from aerial photographs, additional buildings have formed an L-shaped setting, with a further smaller building nearby.
