Old Mine [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map, 1991.

This drift mine lies on the S side of the Auchencat Burn, and is noted as an 'Old Copper Mine' on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Dumfriesshire, sheet ix, 1861).

The mine was discharging water on the date of visit, but two rock-cut passages could be seen from the entrance; one runs SE, straight into the hillside, the other branches at the entrance and curves towards the NE.

Visited by RCAHMS (ARW), 6 December 1993.

Listed as copper mine.

RCAHMS 1997.
