Archaeology Notes

NH52SW 10 5069 2208.

Close to the Church at Boleskine, by the side of the 1732 Wade road was the 'General's Hut' inn said to have been built specifiaclly for General Wade to superintend the roadworks.

J B Salmond 1938; W Taylor 1976; Pollard 1984; Wade's Map of the King's Roads 1746.

Although a house was recorded some years ago on this site of the General's Hut, there are no visible traces extant. The building was originally constructed to accommodate General Wade whilst he supervised the making of the road.

M Logie (Highland Council); NMRS MS 1007/3.
